EigenGait: Motion-Based Recognition of People Using Image Self-Similarity

چکیده
We present a novel technique for motion-based recognition of individual gaits in monocular sequences. Recent work has suggested that the image self-similarity plot of a moving person/object is a projection of its planar dynamics. Hence we expect that these plots encode much information about gait motion patterns, and that they can serve as good discriminants between different types of gait. We propose a method for gait recognition that uses similarity plots the same way that face images are used in eigenface-based face recognition techniques. Specifically, we first apply Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to a set of training similarity plots. This maps them to a lower dimensional space with less unwanted variation. A supervised clustering technique is then used to group these training samples into classes (clusters) in this space. Gait recognition is subsequently done by assigning the similarity plot of an input gait to the closest cluster. We test our method on a data set of 42 sequences at 30 fps each, depicting six different walking subjects. We use k-means clustering to build the classifier and the leave-one-out cross-validation technique to obtain an unbiased estimate of the recognition rate of about 93% (39

Motion-Based Recognition of People in EigenGait Space
A motion-based, correspondence-free technique for human gait recognition in monocular video is presented. We contend that the planar dynamics of a walking person are encoded in a 2D plot consisting of the pairwise image similarities of the sequence of images of the person, and that gait recognition can be achieved via standard pattern classification of these plots. We use background modelling t...
متن کاملLocal self-similarity-based registration of human ROIs in pairs of stereo thermal-visible videos
For several years, mutual information (MI) has been the classic multimodal similarity measure. The robustness of MI is closely restricted by the choice of MI window sizes. For unsupervised human monitoring applications, obtaining appropriate MI window sizes for computing MI in videos with multiple people in different sizes and different levels of occlusion is problematic. In this work, we apply...

Gesture and motion recognition are needed for a variety of applications. The use of human hand motions as a natural interface tool has motivated researchers to conduct research in the modeling, analysis and recognition of various hand movements. In particular, human-computer intelligent interaction has been a focus of research in vision-based gesture recognition. In this work, we introduce a 3-...
متن کاملEvaluation of Similarity Measures for Template Matching
Image matching is a critical process in various photogrammetry, computer vision and remote sensing applications such as image registration, 3D model reconstruction, change detection, image fusion, pattern recognition, autonomous navigation, and digital elevation model (DEM) generation and orientation. The primary goal of the image matching process is to establish the correspondence between two ...
متن کاملGait Recognition Using Image Self-Similarity
Gait is one of the few biometrics that can be measured at a distance, and is hence useful for passive surveillance as well as biometric applications. Gait recognition research is still at its infancy, however, and we have yet to solve the fundamental issue of finding gait features which at once have sufficient discrimination power and can be extracted robustly and accurately from low-resolution...
